Heat Treatment:
- Annealing: XH73 alloy can be annealed at temperatures between 1050°C to 1150°C (1922°F to 2102°F) for stress relief and to improve ductility.
- Welding: XH73 can be welded using standard techniques such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) or gas metal arc welding (GMAW). However, precise control of heat during welding is required to avoid weakening the material.
- Machining: It is machinable using conventional techniques, but due to its strength and toughness, it requires high-quality tools to ensure clean cuts.
Applications:
XH73 alloy’s combination of high strength, corrosion resistance, and thermal stability makes it ideal for use in extreme environments, including:
- Aerospace: Components exposed to high temperatures, such as turbine blades, exhaust nozzles, and other high-stress parts in engines.
- Marine: Parts exposed to seawater, including marine propellers, shafts, and heat exchangers, as well as fasteners and fittings for marine structures.
- Chemical Processing: Equipment used in aggressive environments, such as acid tanks, chemical reactors, and pipelines.
- Oil and Gas: Components used in harsh, offshore environments, where exposure to both corrosive agents and high temperatures is common.
Corrosion Resistance
- Oxidation Resistance: XH73 provides excellent resistance to oxidation, making it suitable for high-temperature applications, such as in exhaust systems and heat exchangers.
- Marine and Seawater Corrosion Resistance: The alloy’s high nickel and chromium content makes it highly resistant to seawater corrosion, making it ideal for marine environments where exposure to saltwater is constant.
- Pitting and Crevice Corrosion Resistance: The inclusion of molybdenum in XH73 improves its resistance to localized corrosion, especially in environments rich in chlorides.
- Acid Resistance: XH73 offers resistance to sulfuric and phosphoric acids, along with other acidic environments, making it suitable for chemical processing applications.
