Alloy 17-4 PH - Precipitation-Hardening Stainless Steel
Alloy 17-4 PH is a high-strength, corrosion-resistant stainless steel that combines excellent mechanical properties with ease of fabrication. It is widely used in aerospace, chemical, and other high-performance industries, thanks to its exceptional balance of strength, toughness, and resistance to corrosion. The alloy achieves its high strength through a precipitation-hardening process, making it a versatile material for critical structural and mechanical applications.
Features of 17-4 PH:
- High Strength and Hardness: Offers high tensile strength (up to 1150 MPa) and hardness (up to 44 HRC) after heat treatment, making it suitable for demanding applications.
- Good Corrosion Resistance: Provides excellent resistance to corrosion in a variety of environments, including seawater, chemicals, and high-temperature conditions.
- Good Weldability: Can be welded using standard welding methods, with minimal loss of strength, and does not require post-weld heat treatment.
- Excellent Fatigue and Stress Corrosion Resistance: Performs well in applications subjected to cyclic loads and stress corrosion cracking.
- Heat Treatable: Achieves high strength and toughness through precipitation hardening, allowing for a wide range of mechanical properties depending on the heat treatment process.
