Product Description:
H12 is a chromium-based hot work tool steel known for its excellent resistance to thermal fatigue, wear, and softening at elevated temperatures. It is primarily used for making tools that operate at high temperatures, such as molds, dies, and other equipment used in hot working processes. H12 has a balanced composition of chromium, molybdenum, and vanadium, which provide it with high strength, heat resistance, and wear resistance, making it ideal for applications in die-casting, extrusion dies, and forging tools. It can withstand high-temperature environments and maintain its hardness and toughness, even under stress.
Features:
- Excellent Heat Resistance: H12 is resistant to thermal fatigue and softening, making it suitable for high-temperature applications.
- Good Toughness: The steel offers good toughness, ensuring that it can withstand thermal cycling and impact without cracking.
- Wear Resistance: Due to its high molybdenum and vanadium content, H12 offers excellent wear resistance, particularly in hot working applications.
- Moderate Corrosion Resistance: While it is not as corrosion-resistant as stainless steels, it has good resistance to oxidation in high-temperature environments.
- High Strength at Elevated Temperatures: H12 retains its mechanical properties, including strength, at temperatures up to 1000°F (538°C), making it effective in hot working tools.
Specifications:
- ASTM A681: Standard Specification for Tool Steel, Hot Work, including H12.
- SAE J437: Standard for hot work tool steels, including H12.
- UNS T20812: Unified Numbering System designation for H12 tool steel.
