Product Description:
Z30C13 is a high-carbon martensitic stainless steel containing approximately 13%
chromium. After quenching and tempering, it provides high hardness, good
mechanical strength, and moderate corrosion resistance. It is widely used in
applications requiring wear resistance and edge retention
Chemical Composition:
| Element | Composition (%) |
|---|---|
| Carbon (C) | 0.26 – 0.35 |
| Chromium (Cr) | 12.0 – 14.0 |
| Manganese (Mn) | ≤ 1.0 |
| Silicon (Si) | ≤ 1.0 |
| Nickel (Ni) | ≤ 0.6 |
| Phosphorus (P) | ≤ 0.040 |
| Sulfur (S) | ≤ 0.030 |
Mechanical Properties:
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Tensile Strength | 850 – 1100 MPa |
| Yield Strength | 600 – 800 MPa |
| Hardness (Rockwell C) | 48 – 54 HRC |
| Elongation | 10 – 15% |
| Impact Toughness (KV Charpy) | 10 – 20 J |
Heat Treatment:
Annealing
- Temperature: ~ 740 – 800°C
- Cooling: Slow cooling in furnace
- Result: Soft structure (~ 200 HB)
Hardening (Quenching)
- Austenitizing: 980 – 1050°C
- Quench medium: Oil or air
Tempering
- Typical tempering range: 150 – 300°C
- Higher tempering temperatures reduce hardness but improve toughness.
Resulting Hardness
- After quench + tempering at 200°C: 50–54 HRC
- After tempering at higher temperatures (500°C+): 30–40 HRC
Physical Properties:
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Density | 7.70 g/cm³ |
| Modulus of Elasticity | ~ 200 GPa |
| Thermal Conductivity | ~ 24 W/m·K |
| Specific Heat | ~ 460 J/kg·K |
| Electrical Resistivity | 60–65 µΩ·cm |
Applications:
- Kitchen knives & professional cutlery
- Surgical and dental instruments
- Pump shafts, mechanical sleeves
- Bearings, washers, fasteners
- Industrial machine components
- Hand tools and wear-resistant parts
Corrosion Resistance:
Z30C13 offers moderate corrosion resistance, similar to other martensitic 13% chromium
grades.
It is suitable for:
- Mild atmospheric environments
- Fresh water
- Food-contact conditions
