Maraging 350 - Ultra-High Strength Steel Alloy
Maraging 350 is an ultra-high-strength, low-carbon, nickel-based steel alloy designed to provide superior mechanical properties such as exceptional tensile strength, toughness, and fatigue resistance. As part of the maraging steel family, Maraging 350 undergoes a special aging process (maraging) that enhances its strength while retaining good toughness and ductility. This alloy is known for its outstanding performance in high-stress and high-performance applications, particularly in industries such as aerospace, defense, tooling, and manufacturing.
The alloy’s strength is primarily achieved through the precipitation of intermetallic compounds during heat treatment, making it ideal for applications where high strength-to-weight ratios and resistance to wear and fatigue are crucial. Maraging 350 is commonly used in critical applications that require excellent mechanical properties at both room and elevated temperatures.
Features of Maraging 350:
- Ultra-High Tensile Strength: Maraging 350 has a tensile strength of up to 350 ksi (2413 MPa), one of the highest tensile strengths available among maraging steels.
- Excellent Toughness: Despite its high strength, Maraging 350 retains good toughness and ductility, preventing brittle failure under stress.
- Superior Fatigue Resistance: Exceptional resistance to fatigue and crack propagation, making it ideal for components exposed to cyclic loading.
- High Impact Toughness: The alloy performs well under impact, offering resistance to sudden shocks and high stress.
- Corrosion and Stress Corrosion Resistance: Exhibits resistance to corrosion and stress corrosion cracking, ensuring durability in harsh environments.
- Good Machinability: Maraging 350 can be machined to tight tolerances, making it ideal for precision components.
- Good Weldability: This alloy can be welded with conventional techniques, ensuring flexibility in manufacturing.
- Wear Resistance: Excellent wear resistance, making it suitable for tooling and industrial applications where abrasion resistance is required.
Specifications:
- AMS 6517
- ASTM A647
- UNS K94000
- ASME SB-647
- MIL-S-46850
These specifications confirm Maraging 350’s suitability for demanding applications requiring ultra-high-strength materials.
