Product Description:
T4 tool steel is a high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel with a tungsten base that offers excellent hardness, wear resistance, and resistance to softening at elevated temperatures. T4 is commonly used in applications requiring high performance at high speeds, such as cutting tools, forming tools, and dies. It is particularly known for its excellent wear resistance, toughness, and the ability to maintain hardness even under extreme thermal stresses. T4 is less commonly used than some other tool steels but is still valuable in situations where high strength and resistance to heat are critical.
Features:
- High Red Hardness: T4 maintains its hardness even at high temperatures (up to 600°C or 1112°F), making it suitable for high-speed cutting tools.
- Excellent Wear Resistance: The tungsten and chromium content provides superior wear resistance, making T4 ideal for applications that involve high abrasion.
- Good Toughness: T4 offers good toughness and ductility, reducing the likelihood of fractures under heavy loads or impact.
- High Strength: It has high tensile strength, allowing it to withstand the mechanical stresses of high-speed machining.
- Good Grindability: T4 can be ground to precise tolerances, making it suitable for high-precision applications.
- Heat Resistance: T4 resists softening at high temperatures, which is essential for high-speed machining operations.
Specifications:
- ASTM A600: Standard Specification for High-Speed Tool Steel, which includes T4.
- SAE J438: Standard for high-speed tool steels, including T4.
- UNS T12004: Unified Numbering System designation for T4 tool steel.
