Product Description:
C45 is a medium carbon steel, also known as 1.0503 steel according to the EN standard, that is commonly used for manufacturing parts requiring good tensile strength, wear resistance, and hardness. It is a non-alloy steel, meaning it does not contain significant amounts of other alloying elements like chromium, nickel, or molybdenum, although it may contain small amounts of manganese, sulfur, and phosphorus.
Features:
- Good Strength and Hardness: C45 is suitable for parts requiring a balance of hardness and toughness, achieving good strength after heat treatment.
- Excellent Machinability: It offers good machinability in both its annealed and hardened states
- Heat Treatment Capability: It can be heat treated to increase its mechanical properties, including tensile strength, hardness, and wear resistance.
- Versatile: It is used for a wide range of applications, from structural components to mechanical parts and automotive parts.
- Good Toughness: C45 steel retains good toughness, which makes it suitable for applications subject to impact.
Specifications:
- DIN 17200: German standard for steel grades, which includes C45 steel.
- EN 10083-2: Standard for steel for quenching and tempering.
- UNS G10450: The Unified Numbering System designation for C45 steel, often used in the U.S.
- ISO 683-2: Standard for heat-treated steels, which covers the heat treatment processes for C45
